The Taiwan IPO Started Using New Versions of the International Industrial Design Classification and International Patent Classification
Consistent with the WIPO’s recent implementation, the TIPO started to utilize the thirteenth version of the International Industrial Design Classification (i.e., Locarno Agreement) on September 01, 2021. The main updated contents include adding designs for emerging devices, e.g., in relation to virtual reality, as well as several categories for interior designs, e.g., shops and showcases. These updated categories are more consistent with the amended contents in the Patent Examination Guidelines in last year regarding graphic and interior designs.
In addition, the TIPO has started to utilize the 2021.01 version of the International Patent Classification to classify patent applications starting from September 01, 2021. The Patent Gazettes for granted patents and patent applications will be published using the 2021.01 version on October 11, 2021 and December 01, 2021, respectively.
